The Population Reduction Program

The Population Reduction Program

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

ASSETS: LOGO, POSTER, PAMPHLET, ILLUSTRATED CHILDREN’S BOOK, LABELS, TOTE BAG.

For this project, a partner and I were tasked with creating items to implement a hypothetical scenario: In the near future, the government devises a new program to combat overpopulation: state-organized cannibalism. We decided to mix the highly satirical, darkly comic premise with the banality of vintage bureaucratic government design.

The work featured here was my contribution to the project: the materials delivered to families who have been selected to be eaten. The package featured a propaganda poster, a food shopping gift card, a tote bag, an illustrated children’s book (which I wrote and illustrated– a loving parody of the Little Miss and Mr. series by Roger Hargreaves), an information pamphlet, and a euthanasia patch package design. My partner for this project was the very talented Triet Pham.

I used Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign for this project. The materials were realized with professionally printed posters, booklets, and stickers; I also got some hands-on experience with risograph printing.
