Creditography

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

ASSETS: HARDCOVER BOOK.

Creditography was a project I created for the 2019 Pop-Up Type Museum at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. It is an 140 page hardcover book that showcased the art of typography in film titles. The book examined and discussed the typography, design, and direction of six films: Psycho, Marie Antoinette, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Favourite, Se7en, and Inglourious Basterds. Frames of the film’s credits were juxtaposed with frames of the film to showcase the artistic intention that went equally into creating both images; that typography, when used well in a film, can add just as much to an audience’s experience as any other part of the production design, contributing to its meaning as a total work of art. The book was printed using the online publishing platform Blurb. I completed this project using InDesign and Photoshop.

Fonts USED: BODONI, POPPINS, PUBLICO TEXT

FONTS EXAMINED: (PSYCHO) VENUS, NEWS GOTHIC. (THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS) FUTURA. (THE FAVOURITE) VILLAGE TITLING. (SE7EN) HELVETICA. (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) EGYPTIENNE EXTENDED, BOOKMAN, ITC BENGUIAT.

The display for Creditography I created for the 2019 Pop-Up Type Museum featured 3 18”x24” “movie” posters featuring a few fonts in their starring roles featured in the book. There was also an iPad mounted on the wall that played the opening title sequences of all the films in Creditography, so that viewers could get a sense of the type in motion and in context.
